Dear Colleagues

Summer 2020 Cornwall Outdoors

At this time of year our centres and camps would usually be a hive of activity with many of you and your children visiting our facilities for your residential or for one of the many day activities we offer. Strangely the centres now lie quiet and for the first time since 1949 Porthpean Centre does not have any young people on site whilst after more than 40 years there are no tents on the fields of Pelistry Farm. As you can imagine this is particularly difficult for people like ourselves who are hands on, outdoor folk and who, like you, know how much young people benefit from outdoor education and being ‘on camp’ with their friends and school staff. We are in strange and challenging times, but we have to adapt and move on

One of the important issues we have been dealing with relates to finance and we are conscious that many of you will have paid deposits to secure your bookings with us. Following recent discussion, we can confirm that we will be refunding all deposits for unfulfilled bookings up to Friday June 26th. The mechanism for doing so is being clarified and we will be in touch shortly to get this process under way, so we can get the money back to you and your parents/carers. The bookings for the remainder of the summer will be reviewed towards the end of May.

We all know that one of the qualities the outdoors helps to develop is resilience, so we are busy planning to bounce back with new activities, and some of the old favourites but done differently so we look forward to seeing you as soon as we can.
In the meantime, we have been putting some ideas together on our website for activities you could try at school or at home. Have a look: http://cornwalloutdoors.org/home-education/

We are in the process of preparing for bookings for 2021 and will get the information out to you once we have it in place. Please stay safe, look after yourselves and please get in touch if you need to discuss anything.

Yours sincerely
