Centre Information

Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre is situated just outside of St Austell and enjoys spectacular views over St Austell Bay and easy access to the sea and local countryside.  Porthpean OE Centre provides more than just a summer camp as it is a Centre of excellence for outdoor and adventurous activities. Open all year round, providing an excellent outdoor and adventurous activity service both onsite and across Cornwall.

Activity Provision

The Centre has its own onsite indoor climbing wall and outdoor high ropes course and is skilled and equipped to provide water-based and land-based outdoor activities throughout the year for all ages and abilities. Most activities take place within easy walking distance of the Centre. In the summer months the Porthpean Centre transforms yet again into a buzzing camp for activity seeking groups where staff provide hands on outward bound educational activities.

We have five separate villages at Porthpean, named A,B,C,D & E.

Village A - Camping Pods

This village has just been converted to a luxurious camping pod village, new for 2019. The pod village accommodates a maximum of 35 pupils and 3 leaders. There are eight pods in total, seven pods are set up for the students and each sleep five guests. The eighth pod in village A is for group leaders and accommodates three leaders. The camping pods are heated and installed with electric power plugs, lighting, wooden floors throughout and double-glazed doors. For more on our camping pods.

Villages B, C, D & E - Tented Villages with Camping pods for leaders

The Four villages B, C, D & E are set out as tented villages comprising six six-person large canvas tents, all of which have floorboards and mattresses. For the leaders on each of these villages we have the latest luxury camping pods that sleep three leaders. The camping pods are heated and installed with electric power plugs, lighting, wooden floors throughout and double-glazed doors. The tented villages accommodate a maximum of 36 pupils and 3 leaders.   

Other buildings on the site

The camping element, whether in tents or pods is supported by a range of permanent buildings including a centrally heated dining hall, staff lounge, toilet and shower blocks, and drying room.

Before your arrival

After your booking has been confirmed you will be sent information about your activity programme. We will organise activities for your afternoon of arrival, the morning of you departure and your full days on camp. Centre staff will make every effort to cooperate with your school's arrival and departure times to ensure that no one is left out. If you book Option A (5 days/4 nights) all the evening programmes are included. With Option B we can arrange evenings programmes at an extra cost .
